After living in many different parts of the country, Dan settled in Hinesburg, Vermont, which has been his home for over 25 years. He has always been involved in the community, volunteering at both his children’s schools and with other local projects.
Volunteering
Schools: In the past, Dan donated his time at both the Hinesburg Nursery School and the Hinesburg Community School with various construction projects, including a complete upgrade of the Hinesburg Nursery School’s vestibule entrance, and designing and building a garden shed for the Hinesburg Community School Garden Program where students learn to grow and harvest fresh vegetables which are served in the school cafeteria. With both of these projects, Dan took the lead in organizing all volunteer crews and getting materials donated to get the job done.
Trails: When the Hinesburg Trails Committee has needed a hand with blow downs in the woods, Dan has been there with his chain saw.
Town of Hinesburg: Dan’s most recent volunteer effort has been as the general contractor coordinating and managing the construction of the pavilion for the new Hinesburg Town Common. Dan worked closely with the all-volunteer Town Common Committee–from reviewing initial design concepts to coordinating the sitework and then to a final all-volunteer pavilion raising, captured here in a time-lapse video.

Sports: Dan has coached various youth sports over the years but Ultimate Frisbee is his passion. Starting with running a no-cost recreational middle school Ultimate program in Hinesburg, over the past decade Dan has played a key role in developing Ultimate at the middle school level – including being the first in Vermont to organize any middle school tournaments and interscholastic play.
He was instrumental in helping elevate Ultimate to be one of the most popular sports at Hinesburg Community School that is on par with the other school sports.
Dan currently runs a summer pickup Ultimate game that attracts both youth and adults from far and wide and has been one of the CVU Girls Varsity coaches for the past 3 seasons, helping bring the team to the state championship finals for past 2 years (2025 state champs!). Dan’s latest project is developing girls middle school teams with the longer term goal of having Junior Varsity girls teams at the high school level.
Awards: In 2015, Dan was recognized by Connecting Youth in Chittenden South Supervisory Union with an “Aw Shucks” award for helping to promote a more caring and community environment for youth and families in the district.
